Why HOCl?
Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a naturally occurring substance produced by the human body's immune system to fight infection and promote healing. When used in a controlled, medical-grade form, HOCl has several potential benefits for treating nappy rash (diaper dermatitis), a common skin irritation in infants caused by prolonged exposure to moisture, friction, urine, or feces.
Benefits for Nappy Rash
Antimicrobial Properties: HOCl is a powerful antimicrobial agent that can effectively kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi without harming healthy tissue. Nappy rash can sometimes become infected with bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus) or yeast (Candida albicans). HOCl helps reduce the microbial load on the affected skin, preventing or treating secondary infections that worsen the rash.
Anti-Inflammatory Effects: HOCl has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness, swelling, and discomfort associated with nappy rash. By calming the inflammatory response, it soothes irritated skin and promotes comfort for the baby or adult.
Gentle and Non-Toxic: Unlike some harsh chemical treatments, HOCl is non-toxic, non-irritating, and safe for use on sensitive skin, including that of babies. It mimics the body’s natural healing compounds, making it well-tolerated and unlikely to cause stinging or further irritation.
Promotes Healing: HOCl supports the skin’s natural healing process by maintaining a moist environment conducive to tissue repair. It can help speed up the recovery of damaged or irritated skin caused by nappy rash, reducing the duration of discomfort.
Cleanses Without Irritation: HOCl can act as a gentle cleanser, removing debris, urine, or fecal residues that contribute to nappy rash. Its non-cytotoxic nature ensures it cleanses the skin without damaging healthy cells or causing further irritation.
Reduces Odour: By neutralizing bacteria and other microbes, HOCl can help reduce any unpleasant odours associated with nappy rash, particularly in cases of infection.
Safe for Frequent Use: Because HOCl is biocompatible and degrades into harmless water, it can be applied frequently to the affected area without risk of toxicity or sensitization, making it suitable for ongoing management of nappy rash
How to use
Gently clean the affected area with water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, pat dry, and then spray the BioMist MD Spray for Babies & Adults to the rash-prone area and allow to dry naturally.
Combination with Barrier Creams: After applying BioMist MD Spray for Babies & Adults and allowing it to dry, a barrier cream (e.g., zinc oxide) can be used to protect the skin from further moisture exposure.
Consult a Pediatrician: While the HOCl in the BioMist MD Spray for Babies & Adults is safe, consult a healthcare provider before using it on an infant, especially if the rash is severe, persistent, or shows signs of infection (e.g., oozing, fever).
